Edition 2024, Volume 8 – Weekly Highlights from the week of 2/11/2024

Prayer

Almighty God, whose blessed Son was led by the Spirit to be tempted by Satan: Come quickly to help us who are assaulted by many temptations; and, as you know the weaknesses of each of us, let each one find you mighty to save; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. Amen.

Scripture

Galatians 6:7-10 Revised Standard Version

Do not be deceived; God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption; but he who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life. And let us not grow weary in well-doing, for in due season we shall reap, if we do not lose heart. 10 So then, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all men, and especially to those who are of the household of faith.

This year we are celebrating Black History Month by highlighting quotes from influential Black individuals that we can reflect on. This week’s quote comes from American writer and civil rights activist James Baldwin:

“Neither love nor terror makes one blind: Indifference makes one blind.”

Lent is a time of self-examination and reflection. It is a time of prayingfasting (intentionally withholding something you would normally partake in (i.e.: food) and enjoy, for the purpose of creating space in our lives for the presence of Jesus), and giving, in preparation for the coming of Easter.

Bread & WordFood Pantry and Clothing Center will be open on the following Thursdays: 2/29/24, 3/14/24, 3/28/24, 4/11/24, 4/25/24, 5/9/24, 5/30/24, 6/13/24, 6/27/24, 7/11/24, 7/25/24, 8/8/24, 8/29/24, 9/12/24, 9/26/24, 10/10/24 and 10/24/24.
